Lois A. Sanford, of Fairfield, beloved wife of the late Alton Van Horn Sanford, her childhood sweetheart, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, November 2, 2018. Born in Bridgeport on May 16, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Mary Marsden, she had been a Fairfield resident for the last 64 years. She was a graduate of Bassick High School and attended Booth & Bayliss Business School.
Mrs. Sanford performed part-time secretarial work while raising her children and later worked for the University of Connecticut-Stamford. Her favorite job was as guidance department secretary at Roger Ludlowe High School from 1973 to 1984. She was a Girl Scout leader while her three daughters were active in scouting. Mrs. Sanford was a member of the Fairfield Beach Club and the Gaelic American Club.
Predeceased by her daughter, Patricia A. Weilbrenner, she is survived by three children, John A. Sanford of Braintree, MA, Susan J. D’Angelo and her husband, Thomas of Trumbull and Elizabeth A. Dwyer and her husband, Gregory of Stroudsburg, PA; a son-in-law, Charles J. Weilbrenner and his wife, Holly of Duxbury, MA; a former daughter-in-law, Diane Burke of Marshfield, MA; a sister, Doris Held of Monroe. Also known lovingly as Nana by her nine grandchildren, Sarah Weilbrenner Viteri and her husband, Alexander, Bradford Weilbrenner and his wife, Lucy, Ryan Sanford and his wife, Caitlin, Alexandra Sanford, Brian D’Angelo and his wife, Wendy, Scott D’Angelo and his wife, Reece, Matthew D’Angelo and his wife Jaimie, Kevin Dwyer and his wife Jessica and Eric Dwyer; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her daughter, Patricia, she was predeceased by a sister, Jean Gerry.
