Mrs. Lockett Sherrod was born on October 23, 1927 in Lawrence County, Alabama, the fifth of nine children to the late Cliff Hill and Stella Tucker Hill.
Lockett accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Wheeler Chapel Full Gospel Baptist Church – Courtland, AL. Lockett’s love for God was evident in the life she lived and shared with family and friends. On September 26, 2014 Lockett departed this life after a short illness at the National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) – Moulton, AL.
Lockett was married to the late Rannell Sherrod and to this union, they were blessed with seven children:
She was preceded in death by: her husband, parents; two sons, James Louis Sherrod and David Sherrod; five brothers, Roy Hill, Raymond Hill, Ezekiel Hill, Cliff Hill, and Jimmy Hill; five sisters, Wyoming Smiley, Aylean Bell, Ruby Metcalf, Wavine Bush and Leola Lynch.
Mrs. Lockett Sherrod leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Earnest Sherrod Sr., Jessie Sherrod Sr., Rebecca Sherrod, Eleanor Sherrod Goodlow, Barbara Sherrod, (21) twenty one grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Haley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Lockett’s passion in life was her love for God, fishing, canning, knitting and cooking. One of her favorite bible scriptures was Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
