Lloyd Lewis (Lew) Campbell was born October 17, 1933 in What Cheer, Iowa, to William and Hannah Campbell. His brother and two sisters were nine or more years older, and he grew up pretty much as an only child. He was raised in rural Iowa and attended one room school houses until the seventh grade, when he went to a Sigourney, Iowa elementary. His parents then moved to Webster, Iowa, where he went to eighth grade and high school. He graduated valedictorian of the class of 1952 at Webster Consolidated High School.
In 1953 he married Melba Chisam. They were divorced in 1970. A son, Steven, and a daughter, Rebecca, were born to this union. He then went to telegraph school at Marshalltown, Iowa, and worked for the Milwaukee Road in several train stations across central Iowa. In November 1954, while handing up freight car waybills to the fast freight, he was hit by a switch engine on the adjacent track and lost his right leg.
He then attended State University of Iowa, graduating with a B.Sc. in Accounting in 1958. He was then employed by Arthur Young and Company in Chicago until late 1961, residing in Park Forest, Illinois. While working in Chicago, he achieved his Certified Public Accountant Certificate.
His parents moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1956, and he and his family moved to Idaho in late 1961 when his father died.
On June 26, 1978, he received Jesus Christ as his personal savior. In April 1980 he married Mary Esther Nielson, whom he met while treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Adult Singles (FOCAS).
He is survived by a sister, Velma Hubbell; his wife, Mary; son, Steven; daughter, Rebecca (David) Campbell; step-son, Scott Simonette; two granddaughters; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and older sister, Doris.
