LLOYD FRANKLIN HOUGH, AGE 85, BORN IN SMITH COUNTY, MS., DIED OCT. 13, 2021 AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS. HIS FORMATIVE YEARS WERE SPENT IN HOUSTON, TX. HE JOINED THE MILITARY IN 1956, SERVING IN ARMY INTELLIGENCE. HE LATER SERVED WITH VIRGINIA STATE POLICE. IN 1967, LLOYD JOINED THE MIAMI-DADE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND SPENT 13 YEARS IN HOMICIDE AS A TOP DETECTIVE. HIS COLORFUL CAREER INCLUDED INVESTIGATING THE RICKY CRAVERO GANG MURDERS, DRUG KINGPIN MARIO ESCANDAR, COCAINE COWBOYS AND MIAMI RIVER COPS. HE ALSO SERVED AS SERGEANT-AT-ARMS TO THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY COMMISSION. IN 1989 HE JOINED MIAMI-DADE FIRE AS A BUREAU COMMANDER TO ESTABLISH AN INTERNAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT. LLOYD SERVED 36 YEARS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH A STELLAR REPUTATION. HE WAS AN AVID HUNTER WITH A 300-ACRE FARM IN GEORGIA. LLOYD SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE RETIRED POLICE OFFICERS COUNCIL FOR 9 YEARS. SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS LOVING AND DEVOTED WIFE OF 50 YRS.
