Lloyd H. “Mac” McCravey was born in Taft in November 26, 1927 to Luther and Mattie McCravey. He was joined two years later by little brother, Doyle. Mac attended schools in Taft from Kindergarten through Taft Union High School school, graduating in 1945. Mac excelled in sports, including football and Golden Gloves. Mac served in the Army Air Corps stationed in Germany during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. He began his U.S. Postal career in Taft, first as a letter carrier at age 15, eventually serving as Postmaster in Coalinga for nine years before retiring in 1983.
Mac also had a long career as a baseball umpire in Taft. Mac also served on the Taft College Board of Trustees from 1971-1974, serving as President of the board in 1974.
In 1946, Mac married his high school sweetheart, Lois Pond, who preceded him in death in 2014. They enjoyed many happy years traveling the world with relatives and friends. In later years, Mac continued to enjoy cruising with friends, including his best friends, Jim and Willie Gaither. Mac and Lois lovingly raised their “children”, eight exuberant boxer dogs. Mac is survived by eight nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and great-greats!
