Lloyd was born on October 5, 1920, in Boston’s neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, to Austin and Esther Ballard. His family settled in Middleton, and Lloyd ultimately made a home in the same town with Martha, his wife of nearly 70 years (formerly of Lynn), and seven children at a residence on Riverview Drive.
