Lise Meares, age 80, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021. She was born in the fall of 1940, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the daughter of Lynge and Ebba (Hagengaard) Lyngesen. As a young girl Lise lived through World War II, she told how her family helped others escape and the sign of her father’s boots in the hall.
This experience influenced her life in many ways, including a strong dislike for peanut butter because of limited resources and the delivery of a rancid batch. Lise was a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother (Mormor/Farmor). She held many titles in her life, including nurse, journalist, and treasurer. Lise obtained her nursing degree in Denmark where she worked as a nurse before immigrating to the United States at the end of 1964. She was sponsored by her Aunt Yelva Rytter from Bakersfield, California. Lise worked in Bakersfield as a surgical nurse for four years before moving to the Los Angeles area.
She met her husband “Larry” at a party in Manhattan beach in May of 1969. On August 30, 1969, Lise and Lawrence G. Meares were married in Copenhagen, Denmark. The couple resided in the Los Angeles, California area. Lise returned to school and in December of 1975 she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at California State University, Long Beach with a major in Journalism and a minor in Political Science. While living in the Los Angeles area Larry and Lise welcomed a daughter and then a son into their lives. Eventually, Lise quit her job as an operating room nurse to work for Larry as Treasurer of his business, Intusoft, a circuit simulation design software company. In 2007 she and Larry “retired” to Grass Valley, California where they planted a small private vineyard and enjoyed themselves for 10 years. After Lise’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, the couple moved to Michigan.
Lise was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jorn Lyngesen and Arne Lyngesen; and brother-in-law Walter Meares. She is survived by her husband Lawrence G. Meares. Also surviving are her children, Teresa (Richard) Hamming of Kalamazoo, MI, and Jeffrey (Vandana) Meares of Fremont, CA; nine grandchildren, Clair, Lily, Jessica, Zane, Olivia, Alexandria, Ezra, and Gabriel Hamming and William Meares; brother, Ejvind Lyngesen; sisters-in-law, Gerd Lyngesen, Taka Lyngesen, and Lynne Meares; and several nieces and nephews.
