Our mother was the most beautiful, caring, and feisty woman we’ve ever met. She spoke her mind and, if she liked you, she had your back. We could count on her for anything, and we mean anything! If the ump made a bad call, there she was. If our friends and us got caught TP’ing a house, there she was. If we wanted some nachos from the ballpark and all she had left was a few bucks, there she was. She was always there. We couldn’t tell you how many memories of her we have of her chirping at a referee or an umpire after we did something wrong. It didn’t matter though, because that’s who she was. If you were on her team, she was defending you, plain and simple.

She treated us boys and our friends like her own; they always knew she wanted nothing but the best for us. We’ve come home to find our friends just hanging out with our dad and her; that’s just the kind of parents they were– nonjudgmental, honest, and caring. They definitely knew how to have a good time! Not a day goes by that we don’t have a memory with her in it. She was a wonderful grandmother to all the grandkids, a great mother, and a really great friend to all.

Our mom wasn’t afraid to get real with us as we got older and started realizing all the bad stuff that comes with being an adult. She taught us how it was okay to be sad and upset; she made us realize to take that emotion and turn it into something bigger–to take all that negative and turn it into positive and caring energy that we could put back into the world.  She just never let us forget how sweet life could really be if you just be yourself and love others.

We know it’s okay to be sad over this, Mom, and we’re crushed, but we also know you’d want us to be happy remembering all the times we had together. So, today we celebrate the amazing life you lived with all of the people you touched, Momma. Enjoy that diet coke with Grandma and then that beer with Deb and Stein. We love you so much and not a day will go by without you on our minds. Don’t worry about us down here; we’ll be okay. <3

Love always,

 Your Boys
