Lionel Everett, born December 19th, 1968, transitioned to Heaven on the evening of August 28th, 2020 after an audacious 15 year battle with cancer. Lionel’s legacy is marked by heroism and courage, honesty and compassion, a loud voice and laughter, love and baseball.
An adored son, father and grandfather, Lionel is survived by his parents, Margaret Ann and Gerald Bailey, his children, Nicole, Joshua, and Jordan with their mother Sandy, and his grandsons Riley and Maximus. Though an only child by birth, his cousin Linest Everett was his sister, and she too lives on to represent his charisma, spirit, and a groundedness, as the Everett family and the community around them grieves his departure.
Lionel was a man of service and commitment. A veteran of the United States Marine Corp, he served his country in Desert Storm and Desert Shield with honor, bravery and purpose. He often reflected on that time of his life with fondness – recalling the camaraderie and unexpected beauty of his experiences. He was a proud warrior through and through and will be sorely missed by his brothers in arms.
In 1998, the Everett family settled in Ewing, New Jersey and shortly thereafter, Lionel became a pillar within the Ewing Township Little League Baseball community. His love for the game made teaching all his children and his grandsons easy. He coached them all individually and was responsible for their teams for as long as they would play. And as if that wasn’t enough, over the course of 21 years, he would go on to coach, train, and mentor countless athletes with a passion, knowledge, and joy that was infectious. Coach E. left an impact on every baseball diamond he walked on. He made his voice heard. He made people better. He respected and nurtured the game. He left behind an example that will be unmatched.
Lionel Everett’s life was one for the ages. He worked hard and sacrificed much to ensure the best for his family. He devoted himself to ensuring the security of the ones he loved and to help the ones he could. He was a selfless man who made every person feel like they were important. He was ambitious and entrepreneurial, devoted and loyal. He was the best man many people came to know. And his loss will be felt greatly in the times to come.
