Linow Naomi (Lowe) Hoskins, 94, of Great Falls, passed away November 27, 2012, of natural causes at a local healthcare facility.

Linow was born in Howell County Missouri in 1917. She was the oldest of 8 children. Right from the very beginning it was her call to take care of those around her. Family was first and foremost, and it was her desire to make everyone around comfortable, warm and well fed. She was well known for her handiworks. She could look at a picture of clothing and without a pattern could make the item. She could crochet, knit and accomplish any craft or task that needed to be done.

She married the love of her life, Vestes Ritter in 1935 in Oklahoma and the couple moved to Kansas where their first born, Cecil Eugene Ritter was brought into the world. They went through the dust bowl era in Oklahoma and left with others for a better life. They settled in Benicia, California where their daughter Helen Marie was born. Raising both children through hard times and good times, and their home was a safe haven for family in transit. The doors to the Ritter home were revolving and never closed. The dinner table was always open for anyone who might drop by.

Linow worked in the local grocery store and then the 5 & 10 cent store becoming a consultant for anyone who needed help buying material. The local Home Economics teacher sent her students to her for advice and she would even help when called upon with their various projects. Vestes died far too young at 57, but they had accomplished raising 2 children and seeing 5 grandchildren enter this world. Needless to say they were the pride of their lives.

Linow then married Wesley “David” Hoskins, and he became “Pop” Hoskins and Grampa Dave, a special man to all of the family. She was once again complete with someone to care for. Thirteen great-grandchildren entered her life and she became the most loved NANA in the whole world. Pop Hoskins passed away, and she then moved from California to be with her loved ones in Montana. She spent 5 years in Great Falls before moving to her daughter’s home along the Missouri, outside of Cascade.

Linow most recently resided with her daughter, Helen in Great Falls for the past 2 years and brought joy to all who dropped in to see her. Nana became a Great-Great-Grandma in May 2011 and was so proud. She was blessed with the good fortune of celebrating 5 generations brought together in 2011. For nearly a glorious month, this past summer, she was able to spoil her great-great-granddaughter.
