Linda Mae McMeans Russell, our beloved “Mumu”, age 83, died Thursday, 27 March 2014, at Twin Cities Hospital of Niceville, Florida.

Mrs. Russell was born in Athens, Alabama, on 29 December 1930. As a child, she lived in Athens, Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama, and Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Birmingham-Southern College, where she was a member of Alpha Omega Pi sorority. Linda married the love of her life, Russ Russell, on June 9, 1951 and began her exciting life as the wife of an Air Force fighter pilot, which took them to the faraway places she had always dreamed of.

She was preceded in death by her Mother, Epsie “Peppy” Kennemer Horn, of Athens, Alabama; her sister, Phyllis Porter, of Houston, Texas; her stepfather, Ivy Hancock Horn, of Birmingham, Alabama; her stepbrother Albert Horn, of Atlanta, Georgia; her uncle, Lynn Kennemer of Athens, Alabama; her son-in-law William J. O’Connor of Destin, Florida; and her beloved husband of 63 years, LTC Homer A. “Russ” Russell, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Survivors include: her son Dr. Homer Arthur Russell, III, MAJ (Retired) and daughter-in-law Jane H. Russell of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter and son-in-law Sheridan Lynn and COL (Retired) Philip B. North of Niceville, Florida; daughter Marcia Page O’Connor of Niceville, Florida; daughter and son-in-law Valerie Terhune and Dean R. Powery of Slidell, Louisiana; her adored grandchildren, Lindsay Allison North of Omaha, Nebraska; Matthew Russell Powery, and Kaela Noelle Powery of Slidell, Louisiana; her beloved sister Betty Gage, of Cummings, Georgia; her Aunt Jerry Gilbert of Athens, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

Following a three-year tour in Germany, her husband Russ was assigned to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where they made their home in the Fort Walton Beach area for the next 43 years. Mrs.

Linda was an avid reader, bridge player, and lover of world history, culture, cuisine, and travel. On her many trips, she traveled to Mexico, Germany, Austria, England, France, Belgium, Italy, the former Czechoslovakia, Greece, the British Isles, the Panama Canal, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Russia, the Czech Republic, and throughout the United States, with family and friends.
