Linda Darnell Hytower was born Jan. 1, 1966 in Mobile to her birth mother, the former Annie Mae McGaster and the late Charles Mitchell Ely Sr., her father. In 1967, she was adopted by Josephine P. Davis and the late Isaac Davis Jr. of Barlow Bend.

Linda was a 1984 graduate from Jackson High School. She was employed at Teledyne, Vanity Fair, and Walmart, collectively for 37 years. She was last employed at Walmart, where she became an extraordinary deli worker, who was loved by all who came to know “Mrs. Linda,” as she was affectionately known. She was a coworker, friend, taxi driver and counselor to all who needed her help. Her tremendous work ethic led to many years with perfect attendance, Employee of the Month Awards, and many other accomplishments. She would always do all she could to take care of anyone who needed her help. She was a member of the Church of the Living God in Coffeeville, where she served faithfully.

Linda leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 27 years, Xavier E. Hytower Sr.; her children, Xavier E. Hytower Jr. and Shakayla L. Hytower; her mothers, Josephine P. Davis of Jackson and Annie M. Steele of Mobile; brothers, the Rev. Jonathan (Ida) Davis of Frederick, Md., and Charles and Donald Ely of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Shelia (James) Blount of Miami, Fla., Mary Pritchett of Flint, Mich., Bettye Peoples and Roxey (Jeff) James, both of Jackson; mother-in-law, Minnie Hytower of Pensacola, Fla.; father-in-law, Earlie Hytower of Coffeeville; sisters-in-law, Marcie Grace and Shanqua Hytower, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Stacy (Frederick) Davis of Montgomery; with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
