Lily Margaret Steiner Case 8/6/1926 to 3/11/2017.
Lily was born August 6, 1926 in Mellette County, South Dakota, on the Rosebud Indian Reservation to John Jacob Steiner and Hilda Helen Branek Steiner. She was the sixth of six children of Pioneer people from Nebraska. John came to South Dakota to Homestead. Her nickname was always Tag-along-Lily. She was not only the sixth child but was also six years behind her next older brother. The depression drove them to Southwest Oregon near Adrian when she was 7. She attended Wade Grade School north of Big Bend and graduated from Adrian High School.
She and Tom shared many early journeys and then came the 4 children, all under 5 years of age. She had no free time for the next 22 years, yet she made and took time to be a phenomenal homemaker, especially gardening, preserving food for a family of six while she was a generous friend and neighbor- a friend she always stayed. She hated leaving the farm physically; she never left it in her heart. In her empty nest times, she helped Tom farm. She crocheted, she sewed, she crafted, she painted exquisitely, and then she started quilting- her passion. Her homemaking included carpentry and fixing “things”. No one baked bread and apple pie like Lily.
Lily is preceded in death by her spouse, Tom, her parents, her other parents, Cecil and Edith Case, all her siblings, one granddaughter, Amy Christie, and many cousins, aunts and uncles, friends, nieces, and nephews. She is survived by her four children, Van Case (Vicki), Vern Case (Barb), Jacki Germain (Jerry) and Anne Christie (Alan). She also leaves eight grandchildren and their spouses and children, and 2 great great grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law’s jean Steiner, Myra Andrews, and Verna Frasier, Donna Case, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
