Lillie Marie Burrus, 89, of Arenzville, died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1921, in Logan County, the daughter of Ray and Myrtle Sanders Long. She married Charles Glenn Burrus on Dec. 1, 1948, in Lincoln and he preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 1978.

She is survived by one daughter and one son, Marlene (Albert) Bessert and Warren Burrus; two grandchildren, Jenniffer (Tom) Shepherd and Nathan Bessert; two great-grandchildren, Justin Shepherd and Alana Shepherd; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Steffens and Alberta Yeadicke; and one brother, Raymond Long.

Mrs. Burrus was an active and longtime member of Meredosia United Methodist Church and is currently a member of Bluffs United Methodist Church. During World War II she worked for Caterpillar in Peoria. Marie had been active with 4-H, and she enjoyed baking cakes and pies for charitable events in Meredosia. She loved being a farm wife and mother.
