Lidia Pina Cabral, 79, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2015. She was born December 15,1935, in Guimaraes de Tavares, Mangualde, Portugal, to Jose M. and Adelina Pina. She was pre-deceased by her only son, Nelson Pina Cabral, in 1985, and her beloved husband, Gaspar Cabral in 1989. Together with her sweetheart Gaspar, they raised two children, Nelson Pina Cabral and Elvira (Cabral) Bartlett. Lidia was always telling stories of her family, church and world travels. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family to enjoy new experiences; she loved her family unconditionally. Nothing made Avó smile more than seeing her great grandchildren playing, making faces or just spending time together. They were her life. With a dream of a better life for her family, she and her husband made the difficult decision to leave their young children behind with family members in Portugal, to make the long journey to America. Lidia was a determined, hard working, ethical, and faithful person who always put her love of her family and devotion to God first. She was an avid member the St. Isaac Joques Church in East Hartford. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. Her love for her grandchildren and great children were unsurpassed. Lidia was the keeper of our heritage. Her memories, experiences and stories, made her connection to the past our forever memories. While the loss of her only son devastated her, she maintained her faith, and continued to share the many stories of his life, so his son who had lost his father at such a young age could understand who his father was and the man he had become. Lidia’s love for her daughter, Elvira, was apparent. She supported her through the tragic loss of her own husband, Raymond, giving her strength and support to remember him and the love they shared. Lidia and Elvira were very close, sharing family dinners, outings and always making memories as a family. Lidia was blessed with a loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Elvira (Cabral) Bartlett, of East Hartford, her daughter-in-law, Lynda Cabral of Manchester; her grandchildren Nelson B. Cabral and his wife Diana of Waxhaw, NC, Raymond Bartlett and his long time girlfriend Robin Williams, of Manchester, and Michelle Bartlett of East Hartford; her great grandchildren, Ethan Sharpe, Maxwell Cabral and Knox Cabral. She is survived by her two brothers Vitor Pina and his wife Maria, Jose A. Pina and his wife Çao; her two sisters Amelia Pina Gaspar and Ariete Pina Gatewood and her husband Richard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved immensely. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son Nelson Pina Cabral.
