Greetings family, peace, and love. On Wednesday, September 02, 2020, an angel in the flesh transitioned into the “Ancestral Realm.”
Mrs. Liddie Irene Marable Claybrook 86, of 713 Sampson Street Clinton, NC passed away.

“Ms. Irene”, as she was affectionately and respectfully called by many, was born.

August 10, 1934, in the Keener Community of Sampson County, NC. The second of three daughters born to Wellie and Bessie McLamb Marable. Her Parents, her Sisters Eliza Bernice Marable Boykin, and Ruby Mae Marable, her Brothers Thelma Grant, Willie “Buster” Marable, Columbus Marable, Leroy Marable, and her oldest Son James Clifton Marable preceded her in death.

“Ms. Irene” was a Mother to many, though only giving birth to 7 children of her own. She often cared for, cooked for, clothed, corrected, counseled, and encouraged many other children, whom she welcomed into her humble home, nurturing and loving unconditionally. A mother to many whose diapers she changed, kept during the day as babies, and helped raise. Who’s front porch and yard served as a bus stop. Who’s the living room, an after-school care center, and who’s backyard was, for basketball and hanging out?

She is survived by children Harry D. Marable, Lydia Claybrook Dawson, and Eric Claybrook all of Raleigh, NC. Cassandra F. Claybrook and Leland Christopher Claybrook of Salemburg, NC, and Michael Chambers of Atlanta, GA. 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren. A host of Nieces and Nephews all special to her. She loves them as her own and their children as her grandchildren.
Today we give honor to a legend in her own right. A true “Block Captain.” A little old lady who could be seen on McCoy Street with a big stick, waving her hands, indicating to and instructing her sons to come in off “The Block.” A mother to any and all who came or stayed at her home.
Today can be seen in one or two ways, we can mourn the loss or we can rejoice, giving thanks and praise. Thankful for the life of “Ms. Irene”. Thankful for the light of “Ms. Irene”. Thankful for the love of “Ms. Irene”. If at any time in any way you were blessed to be in her presence and the essence of her giving spirit was shown to you through love and
compassion.
