Libby Hooks Leak, 69, died peacefully on January 26, 2017, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Libby was born March 15, 1947, daughter of the late James and Mary (Dollar) Hooks. She grew up in the Shawmut community and graduated from Valley High School in 1965.
After retiring from Southern Union State Community College in 2001 with 25 years of service, Libby spent countless hours volunteering with the Lanier Hospital Auxiliary in the hospital gift shop, at the Interfaith Food Closet and with the Chattahoochee Hospice. She also returned to Southern Union to work part time. She used her spare time to travel with family and friends. She enjoyed lifelong friendships with her class of 1965 girls, loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and delighted in spending time shopping and fishing. Libby treasured all types of music and dancing, and she could not sit still when she heard a familiar tune. Her two dogs, Sophie and Hattie, were her constant sources of comfort.
Libby was a member of Fairfax United Methodist Church, where she served on a variety of committees over the years. She was a lady of grace and beauty, and her faith was evident to others by the life she lived.
Libby is survived by her brothers, Barry (Ann) Hooks and David (Martha) Hooks; children, Carol (William) Yin, Kelli (Ken) Hodge, and Russell (Carla) Moore; grandchildren, Christine Yin, Bucky Moore, Dawson Moore, and Sawyer Moore; her loving companion, Selbie Bradley; and a number of other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doss Leak.
