Lewis Turner Coger was born on October 17, 1939 in Athens, Alabama, to the proud parents of the late Lewis Charles and Almeta Maclin Coger. On May 2, 2015, he transitioned to his eternal reward at the Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Trusting and believing in God, Lewis accepted Christ at an early age.
Lewis graduated from Trinity High School in 1958, where he excelled in football and track and field. Taking his ability to play football to the next level, Lewis played semi-professional football with the Decatur Rough Riders. He enjoyed the special comradery that he shared with his Rough Riders team mates. In 2011, he was inducted into the Limestone County Hall of Fame.
Lewis was married to the love of his life, Elsie Jackson Coger for fifty-six years. To this union two children were born: Terrance Lamon Coger and Yolanda Annette Todd.
After twenty-three years of service, Lewis retired from Amoco Chemical Company.
Lewis was preceded in death by his grandson, Aubrey Bethea

Simpson of Rockford IL; sisters: Mae Virginia Davis (Roy), Janet Murrah (Carl) and Bernice Mason (Robert) all of Athens, AL; brother: Glen Earl Cain (Mattie) of Decatur, AL; aunts: Lillie Bell Buffington (Carl) of Rockford, IL, and Rosie B. Maclin of Athens, AL; special and devoted cousins: George Frank Maclin (Norma) of Cupertino, CA, William Batts (Dianna) of Teaneck, NJ and Leo Fuqua, Sr. (Catherine) of Athens, AL; loyal friends: Larry Burchell, Ernest Campbell and James Lucas; and host of other relatives and friends.
