Lewis Stanton Gossette

Lewis Stanton Gossette, of Greensboro, GA, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at his residence. He was 88. Born February 2, 1930 in Tampa, FL, he was the son of the late Henry Lewis Gossette and Willie Lee Evans Gossette. Lewis earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  On October 30, 1953 he married the former Lois Wheeler who preceded him in death on October 14, 2018 after nearly sixty-five years of marriage.  During his working career he was the Regional Director for the Social Security Administration.  After retiring from social security in 1985, they moved from Decatur, GA to Greene County, where he became very active in the community.  Lewis was dedicated to helping others and after moving to Greensboro, he helped with Meals on Wheels and along with his wife Lois helped start Friends of the Library.  After the passing of the Greene County Historian, E. H. Armor, Lewis and Lois helped to organize his historical items for his museum.  He was also a member of the Greene County Historical Society and served as a docent for the Greene County Museum.  He enjoyed reading and anything to do with nature.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Amy Barone from Winter Springs, FL, Phillip Rodenbaugh from Daytona Beach, FL, Hubert Earl Rodenbaugh II from Deland, FL and Laura Rodenbaugh Brock from Crab Orchard, KY and many friends.
