Lewis S. Harris, 91, of Milford, formerly of Stamford, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Carriage Green in Milford. Born on March 14, 1920 in Stamford where he was raised, he was the son of the late Claude and Mary Spelke Harris. He is the beloved husband of 69 years of Louise Martin Harris of Milford.
Lewis served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII attaining the rank of Captain. He was a navigator stationed in India and Burma. He graduated from UNC after which he worked as a broker for Guardian Life Insurance, in New York City for many years. Lewis married his wife Louise in 1941 in a double ceremony with his twin brother Charles and his wife Claire.
Lewis was an avid golfer. He also loved to travel throughout Europe with his wife and family. He had a passion for food and cooking. He read the NY Times religiously everyday up to the day of his passing.
In addition to his wife, Lewis is survived by his children, Robert Martin Harris of Wayne, NJ and Susan Harris Spalthoff and her husband Peter of Milford; his grandson, Brett Martin Harris of Wayne, NJ; adopted daughter, Katie Nuro and her husband Ted of Wilton; a sister-in-law, Claire Harris of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Herb Martin of New York and Bill Martin of Florida; two nephews, Ted Harris and Gerry Harris; and one niece, Ruth Harris.
Lewis was predeceased by his twin brother, Charles Harris.
