Lewis Ray Wampler passed away Thursday, August 25 at home after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.  

Lewis was born on July 6, 1930 in Grant County, Oklahoma to Twila and Claude Wampler.  He was the fourth of five children including Myrna Coon, Marvin B. Wampler, Lora Albright, and Glenda Samuelson.  Lewis moved with his family to Caldwell, Idaho in 1936.   There they built their family farm and Lewis enjoyed the many boyhood adventures of farm living with his brother and sisters.  Lewis graduated from Caldwell High School in 1950 and enlisted in the US Air Force in January of 1951, after his first semester at the College of Idaho.  He served four years at Andrews Air Force Base and was honorably discharged in 1955.  Lewis earned his Bachelor of Arts at the College of Idaho and began his high school teaching career in Payette, Idaho.  He continued to teach in Oregon, Washington, and Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived and taught for nine years.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, brother in-laws Hal Samuelson and George Coon, and a niece Barbara Breeden.
