Mr. Lewis McCain was born May 11, 1954 in Moore County, NC to the late Florence and Jessie Roe McCain. He transitioned from his earthly life January 1, 2022, at his home in Southern Pines, NC.
Lewis was preceded in death by His loving devoted wife of 29 years Dora Barrett McCain. Seven sisters; Mildred, Jessie Mae, Queen, Shirley, Mattie, Rose, and Mary. Five Brothers; Ben, Alexander, Jimmy, Johnny, and James.
Lewis was a member of Long Leaf AME Zion Church in Robbins, NC. He attended Upchurch High School in Raeford, NC. He was employed as a cook at Seven Lakes Restaurant for many years. And later retired from security guard at Purdue Inc. In later years he took on home health care alongside his late wife “Fennie” taking care of the sick and elderly.
Lewis was known for his anointed gift to play the lead guitar and bass guitar by ear. If he heard a song, he could play it just from listening to it. He played the guitar behind his head and with his teeth, leaving his audience full of excitement to hear him play. Through the years he played with many Groups traveling the country as their lead guitar player. Lewis has played on many stages with many quartet greats, such as The Swan Jubilees, The Christianaires, The Carolina Messengers, and The Divine Spirituals. His love for quartet music was second to none. He loved his music, and you could hear him playing his music and guitar all around the neighborhood from his home.
He leaves to cherish his memories; one sister Dorothy McNeill of West End, NC; three daughters, Latasha Allmond of Southern Pines, NC, Denise (Sherman) Moore of Biscoe, NC, Della Jackson of Winston Salem, NC. Three sons, Darron Barrett, Melvin (Millicent) Thomas, of new Jersey; Michael (Shanda) Shamburger of Asheboro, North Carolina; 19 Grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Two special nieces and a special Nephew Shannon McCain, Tanisha Thomas, and Levon McPhaul who took care of him during his illness. He was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Neighbor and Friend to all and will be greatly missed.
