Lewis Edwin “Bud” Sumpter Sr, 86, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2010, after an extended illness.
Bud graduated from Kokomo High School, but lived in Anderson most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army and fought during World War II. Bud retired from General Motors after forty years of service. He loved going to the races and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Survivors include his wife Phyllis Owens Sumpter, two sons, Pete Lorrie Sumpter and Terry Lynn Sumpter three grandchildren, Michelle Greg McFerran, Shane Stephanie Sumpter, and Nathan Michelle Sumpter, seven great grandchildren, Morgan and Trent McFerran, Emma, Logan , Bradley, Sidney, and Kaden Sumpter, one brother, Bob Susie Sumpter, two sisters, Barbara Shearer and Carolyn Bob Eikenberry. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; James Walter and Hazel Webb Sumpter, a brother James Sumpter and a sister Maryanne.
