Lew Twining, one of the greatest fathers, husband and friend this world has ever known passed away peacefully on March 21, 2019 at the age of 85. He was surrounded in grace and prayer by his loving wife of 65 Years, Vera Elaine Twining, daughter Pamela Stevens, and sons Kurt, Kevin and Mark Twining. Lew was a man that was known to be strong in his faith, values and kept his wit to the very end.

Born to Roscoe and Francis Twining, on June 3rd, 1933, he was a long-time resident of Midland, Michigan and worked for Dow Chemical for 37 years. He spent almost all of his childhood and adult life enjoying the great outdoors at Houghton Lake, Michigan and later retired in Sun City West, Arizona where he and Vera joined the Gables Hill Gang to enjoy golf and friendship.

Lew met Vera when he was a senior at Midland High School and she was a sophomore. They saw each other and the next day Lew met her at her locker. They were inseparable from that day forward. Lew asked for her hand in marriage once notified of his pending draft status and then they eloped with the blessing of their parents. They were best friends throughout life and demonstrated a true caring example of what love is.

Lew and Vera were active in their children’s events and attended every game played from Little League Baseball, Pee Wee Football all the way through Bullock Creek High School. Lew often worked the chain gangs of the football games so he could be close to the action.

To know Lew was to know he also had great passion for the University of Michigan football and basketball teams. It did not matter where you were, he wanted to know what time the game was on. This made for great fun as all of his children graduated from Michigan State University.

Lew loved to take fishing trips with his sons to Northern Canada, Houghton Lake Michigan, East Texas and the Bayou of Louisiana. His sons who he taught the passion of fishing could throw the lure farther, catch more fish, but were always humbled by the father who seemed to catch the biggest fish.

He was blessed to have three (3) caring daughters-in-law Glenda, Neoma and Julie Twining and a supportive son-in-law Mark Stevens. Ten (10) grandchildren who loved him very much, Ryan, Cory, Taylor, Olivia, Sophia, Marlie Twining and Chris, Stephen, Kevin, Jessica VanHuss. Followed by eight (8) great grandchildren, Jake, Alex, Nora, Chase, Cash Twining and Leonidas, Fiona and Athena VanHuss.

Lew was such a blessing and a beacon of light. A true treasure of a human being that will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The good Lord is getting a fine man and we know when our day comes, he will be waiting for us and asking who won the game.
