Lewis Junior Copple was born April 18, 1929 to Vurney E. and Hannah M.(Lewis) Copple in rural Pierce County, near Randolph, Nebraska. He was born into Eternal Life on June 12, 2017.

Lewis attended rural schools through 8th grade and graduated from Randolph High School in 1946. He attended Norfolk Junior College, then began teaching in rural schools and small towns. In the Fall of 1950 he enlisted in the Air Force. After discharge from the Air Force in 1954, Lewis attended Wayne State College, graduating in 1956. He took a job as an Art teacher for Omaha Public Schools. In 1958, Lewis accepted a job at Wisner High School teaching business classes. In 1959 he began teaching business classes in Norfolk High School, attending summer classes to complete his Masters Degree in Business Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Lewis became Registrar at Northeast Community College in 1965 and served in that capacity for thirty years until retiring in 1995.

Lewis and Barbara Trowbridge were married in Page, Nebraska in 1952. They have a daughter, Mary Lew (David) Nancarrow of Austin, Texas, and two sons, David E. (Shirley) of Norfolk, and Curt R. (Deb) of Omaha. They have six grandchildren and five great grandsons.

Lewis enjoyed traveling, attending his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ activities, his dogs, dancing, and gardening. He was a life member of the United Methodist Church, where he served on various boards, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Keystone Group. He was a life member of NEA and Retired Teachers.

Preceding Lewis in death were his parents, parents-in-law, sister Marjorie, and five brothers-in-law.
