Levell David Shead was born on August 11, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Rand Sr., and Willie Bob Shead. He was the eleventh child born to this union. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Herman, Mack, Arthur, Sorl, Steve, Rand, Jr., Leon, Larry, and his sisters, Arlee, Hallie Pearl, and Glory Jean. In his early teens Levell and his brother Leon both worked at Big Boys Restaurant where they made 75cents an hour. Levell was late to work just about every day that he worked. On top of always being late when he did show up to work he didn’t do his job. The supervisor at Big Boys couldn’t tell Levell and Leon apart so he decided he was going to fire the one who showed up first the next time they were scheduled to work. Well guess who got fired? It wasn’t Levell because he was always late. Levell lasted two more days after that and then he too was fired. Levell received his formal education in Indianapolis, where he graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1967. He furthered his education by attending Washtenaw Community College, the University of Michigan, and the University of Colorado. By profession, Levell was a business owner and entrepreneur. He also worked in management and sales for several industries where he maintained good working relationships with his co-workers and employees. He was involved in the Professional Sales Society and the Urban League, he also held an FCC Operator License. Levell loved to talk and could hold a conversation on pretty much any topic that came up. This ability allowed him to meet and connect with people everywhere he went. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Levell was introduced to Christ at an early age.
