Ms. Lettie Ruth (McIver) Perry, age 89 of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC.
Lettie Ruth Perry was born June 16, 1933, in Sanford, North Carolina to the late Irene McIver and Tom Thompson.
She attended and graduated from W. B. Wicker School, in Sanford, North Carolina where she met and married Berene D. McLeod. They had three daughters: Cleta Jeannette, Mary Diannette, and Sandra Irene.
Lettie migrated to New York after the disillusionment of her marriage. There she pursued and established her career in various fields. She became a supervisor for a research company, N.T. Fourizos. She was one of two African American females to achieve this position in this company at that time. After living and working in New York for many years she relocated back to Sanford, N.C. to help look out for her mother. She later met and married Hoover Perry.
Lettie was employed by Lee County Library and Human Resource Department/ Community Action Program.
Lettie was preceded in death by her parents, Tom, and Irene; brothers James, Richard, and William Henry (Bootus). She leaves to mourn her; three daughters: Jeannette, Diannette, and Sandra; granddaughters: Ailia, Michelle, Tonika, and Andrea; one grandson: Julian. She has fifteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Joanne; cousins: Elizabeth, Brenda, Isabelle, Ottye, and a host of other cousins, close friends, and associates she’s known throughout the years.
