Lester Winick, 87, of Galesburg Illinois died at 7:31 am on March 5, 2015. Les was born on May 2, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Nathan and Ida Winick. His wife of 60 years Barbara (Feldhuhn) passed away in 2009. Les served in WWII as a medic. In 1953 he moved to the Chicago area to become a manufacturers representative. Prior to moving to Galesburg in 2003, Les and Barb previously lived in Park Forest, Homewood, and Arlington Heights. During this time his love of philately grew and his passion became promoting the hobby of stamp collecting. He wrote about stamps for Linns for 28 years, the Chicago Tribune for 6 years, was syndicated in over 200 newspapers and published a numerous other publications.
He was a founding member of the Park Forest Stamp Club, a former President of the Collectors Club of Chicago, and the Executive Director of Ameripex ’86. He traveled the world as a exhibitor, judge, commissioner, and consultant for stamp shows, and won numerous awards. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, Norm. Surviving, are daughter-in-law Christine Winick of Galesburg, IL; daughter Diane (Lonnie) Graul of Indianapolis, IN; and son Andy (Sherry) Winick of Deerfield, IL. Proud grandfather of: Ben Winick, Keith (Christy) Graul, Leslie (Josh) Wangeman and Dylan Winick.
