Lester L. Sawyer, 66, of Elkhart, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at his residence to be with his loving wife, Jerry E. (Foster) Sawyer, who preceded him on September 21, 2016. He was born on May 10, 1952 in Goshen, IN to the late James and Hazel (Coquillard) Sawyer.

He is survived by his loving children, Heather (Potter) Sawyer, Paul Sawyer, and Christopher Sawyer; five grandchildren, Trenton Bixler, Joshua Troup, Alaina Sawyer, Dylan Sawyer, and Autumn Sawyer; great grandson, Gabriel Sawyer; and sister, Sharon (Gary) Price of Syracuse. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claudia Troup and brother, Jimmy Sawyer.

Lester was known by many as a talented and creative man who was truly “one of a kind.” He worked as a welder by trade for many years at DANA in Syracuse, IN and at Safe Fleet in Elkhart, where he later retired. He was a skilled welder and fabricator who loved to build cars and often helped others build their own cars. When he was young, he loved to race on the local race tracks, but later retired to watching the cars race on the side lines. His family will miss him greatly, but they will never forget how much of an impact he made on their lives as a loving father, grandfather, and brother.
