Lester E. Gene Lewis, age 84, of Jonesboro, IN, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Jonesboro, Indiana residence.
Gene was born in Pardee, Virginia , son of the late Jake Lewis and the late Effie McNutt Lewis. A 1949 graduate of Jonesboro High School, he became a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War serving from 1951 to 1953.
Gene married the love of his life, Martha Belle Lewis on December 21, 1951. She preceded him in death in 2012.
Gene and Martha Belle had two sons Jeffrey who died in 2001 and Benjamin who died in 2013.
Gene was employed by the Pipefitters Local 661 of Muncie for 50 years. He served on the Jonesboro Town Board for 15 years and was a 53 year member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #109. He enjoyed Blue Grass music and western books and movies.
Gene is survived by siblings; Thelma Markland and Nancy (Don) Leach, both of Gas City, IN Bobby Jack Lewis, Fairmount, IN Jim (Bobbi) Dickey, Milan, IN Two Granddaughters; Jennifer and Catherine(John) both of Layfayette, IN and Great-Grandson, Jack. as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Genes niece Roberta Williams for the loving care she provided. He was also preceded in death by his brother Doyle Lewis.
