Lester Charles “Charlie” Cooley Jr., 86, of Cedar Point, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Lacon Rehab and Nursing.
Charlie was born July 19, 1935 in Des Moines, IA to Lester Charles and Lucille (Hough) Cooley. He married Bonna Launius on October 6, 1956 at the First Congregational Church in LaSalle.Charlie was a co-founder of Cedar Point Sportsman’s Club in LaSalle, which was his pride and joy. He worked at M&H Zinc Co., on the road crew for the Illinois Department of Transportation and at LTV Steel Mill in Hennepin.
Through his business, Charlie’s Tower Service, he installed TV towers, satellite dishes and televisions. Charlie always enjoyed talking and visiting in his yard with anyone that would stop by. He was very personable and had a smile and a greeting for everyone. Charlie never knew a stranger.
Survivors include his wife, Bonna; his daughters, Colette (David) Hays of Glencoe and Cheryl (Michael) Fenwick of Peru; five grandchildren, Emily (Michael) Henley, Caitlyn Brandner, Margaret “Maggie” Hays, Michael Brandner and Elizabeth (Casey) Stosberg; four great-grandchildren, Arya King, Kaycee King, David Henley and Charlie Lynn Brandner; one sister, Beverly (Larry) Littrell of LaSalle and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Penny (John) DeMoss.Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cedar Point Sportsman’s Club Building Fund.
