Lester “Bud” Prewitt, 82, of Moberly passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020, after a long, hard battle against pulmonary fibrosis. He was sadly overcome by his inability to breathe because of the disease. His firm belief in God supported him in his struggle, gave him strength in his final days, and ultimately brought him peace.

He was born April 15, 1938, in Moberly to Lester and Clarcie (Pierce) Prewitt. Bud grew up in Moberly with his brother, Floyd, and his sisters, Mildred Specie, Bonnie Wybert Gravitt, and Wanda Johnson. He graduated from Moberly High School as part of the “famous class of 1956”, Moberly Area Junior College (1958), and Moler Barber College of St. Louis (1959). Bud married Shirley Osbourn on June 18, 1961, in Cairo, and they lived in Moberly. He is survived by his wife; his sons, Michael Wayne Prewitt of Moberly, and Philip Eugene Prewitt of Macon; his two grandchildren, Ethan Alexander Prewitt of Macon and Claire Analise Prewitt of Columbia; his sister, Wanda; and many other relatives and friends.

Bud’s pride and joy were his sons, grandchildren, and the log cabin he built at Holiday Acres over the past forty-five years assisted by many family and friends.

Bud was a skilled barber for 61 years and operated Bud’s Barber & Style Shop in Moberly for 47 of those years. He had exceptionally loyal customers, some of whom drove over an hour to have him cut their hair. Some had their first haircut as a child with Bud and then brought their own children to him for their first haircuts. Many people received their final haircuts from him for free in the hospital, nursing home, or funeral home.

An active Mason for 56 years, Bud maintained memberships in Old Milton, Cairo, and Macon Masonic lodges. During that time he served as Worshipful Master for four years and District Deputy Grand Master for six years. Bud was also a member of Cairo Baptist Church and a past President of the Spartan Booster Club.
