Lester Arnold Woods, 84, of Galesburg, died at 9:33 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Kindred Hospital, Peoria.
Lester was born March 15, 1931 at home in Ferris, IL, the son of Earl and Marie Thomas Woods. Lester married Pat Horath on November 9, 1949. He later married Georgia Mae Wells on August 27, 1986 in Kahoka, MO. She survives of Galesburg. Lester is also survived by two daughters, Sarrah Gutierrez and Carole Woods; one sister, Ruby Curtis; two step sons, Scott and Tony Solomon; and two step daughters, Cindy Purifoy and Tina Carder. Lester also leaves behind, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, his beloved dog, Remy, and many nieces and nephews. Along with his son, Dale, Lester was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Delbert Evans; and three sisters, Doris Pecsi, Reva Ryner and Genivive Woods.
Lester grew up on the family farm outside of Ferris. When he left the farm, Lester worked many different jobs including Lucky Boy Bakery, OMC Gale Products, and Steak -N- Shake. From 1964 to 1968 Lester and Pat owned and operated Parkway Drive Inn in Galesburg. He worked for Forest and Irene Corbin at Corbin’s Furniture. While working there he became an auctioneer. After the passing of the Corbin’s he became the owner/operator of the furniture store. Lester was a 50 year member of Alpha Lodge A.F. & A.M. 155. He enjoyed gardening and watching western movies. Lester was a very generous and caring person. He helped many families with his kindness of donated furniture when people were in need.
