Leslie “Les” Simpson, age 66 of Algona, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at his home in Algona. Leslie “Les” Richard Simpson, the son of Richard and Dorthy June (Patton) Simpson, was born on June 9, 1953 in Algona, Iowa. Les graduated from Algona High School in 1971. After graduation, Les enrolled at NIACC where he obtained his AA degree. On November 5, 1977, Les was united in marriage with Theresa Johnson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt, they later divorced in 1991. At the time of his death Les was employed as a truck driver by his nephew, Jake Simpson. Les loved wrestling. In high school, he qualified to state three times and placed runner up in 1970 and third place in 1971. He went on to wrestle for NIACC. Les enjoyed fishing, camping and watching Jake race. Left to share Les’ memory are his children, Jessica Simpson of Fort Dodge, Heather (Donald) Hruska of Fort Dodge, Joe (Sarah) Simpson of Rockwell City, Leslie Ann(James Hruska Simpson of Fort Dodge, John (Sarah) Simpson of Fort Dodge and Erin Simpson of Homestead; fifteen grandchildren; siblings, Jane (Michael) Lenz of Scranton, PA, Jerry Simpson of Algona, Chuck Simpson of Algona, Dean (Shari) Simpson of Algona and Roger (Roxie) Simpson of Algona and his nieces, nephews and their families. Les was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kenneth Simpson.
