Les Hoversten, age 89, of Algona and formerly of Bode, died on Sunday March 29, 2015 at the Algona Good Samaritan Care Center.  Leslie Clair Hoversten, the son of Elmer T. and Josephine (Sunde) Hoversten, was born on March 13, 1926 in Thompson, Iowa. He was a 1943 graduate of Bode High School. On June 1, 1952, Les married Dorothy Marie Hanson. The couple lived near Bode where Les worked the family farm until his 1987 retirement. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, a number of area fast pitch softball and baseball teams, and an ASCS officer. Les was a gentle and soft spoken man who made many lasting relationships. The circle of those who called him friend was wide and deep.

Left to cherish Les’ memory are his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; a son, Dr. Richard (Paula) Hoversten of Litchfield, AZ; three daughters, Jane (Kent) Westphal of LeMars, Joan (John) Kern of Algona and Jill (David) Grindberg of Fort Dodge; thirteen grandchildren, John (Kate), Erica and Paul Hoversten, Scott (Whitney), Brad (Amanda) and Tyler Westphal, Chris (Jessica), Emily and Ben Kern, Christian (Ashley) Grindberg, Karine (Jared) Feddersen and Kjerstin and Karianna Grindberg; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Adams of Longwood, FL; a brother-in-law, Carroll (Barb) Hanson of Iowa City, IA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Hoversten; and a sister, Vivian Leist.
