Leslie was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala on January 8, 1958 to Elena Marcucci de Wolzak and Johan Wolzak. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. Leslie spent over 22 years in service to the United State government, working in leadership roles across the Department of State, Department of Commerce, NASA, and the Broadcast Board of Governors. She excelled throughout her career that combined a love for public service & leadership with her keen eye for numbers and their impact on policy. She was passionate about the vision of the Founding Fathers and could often be heard citing the powerful words of Alexander Hamilton and other authors of the Federalist Papers. She served her country across the globe, living in countries like Japan, Ukraine, and Australia. Above all in her career, she was a patriot. Though she was born in Guatemala, she came to love her adopted country, the United States.
Beyond her career, she had a love of physical fitness. She walked each day from her home in Arlington, Virginia to her office in Washington, DC, and back—no matter the season. She was known for her deep intelligence, infectious enthusiasm, compassion for others, and extraordinary beauty.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Johan. She is survived by her son, Christian Johan, and daughter, Sophia Elena, as well as her mother and two sisters.
