Leroy “Piney” Waaso, 89, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Monday, March 1, 2010 at St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City, Indiana. Leroy was born June 17, 1920 in Three Oaks to Charles and Elizabeth (Schwark) Waaso. He attended Three Oaks High School and worked at the Warren Featherbone Company as a young man.
On August 12, 1944 Leroy married Charlotte Heyn at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman, Michigan. He was employed at Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan and assisted part time at Connelly Funeral Home in Three Oaks. After his retirement from Clark in 1975, he continued part time at the funeral home for LaVern Noble and then for Chris Pobocik.
He was a member of the Clark Golf League and won several League championships. Leroy was an avid bowler, enjoyed a game of cards, playing bingo, working in his yard, taking a walk around the Village, and picking berries. Survivors include his son, Mark Waaso of Three Oaks; brother Robert Waaso of Grand Haven, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Ann in 1949; his wife Charlotte on January 12, 1986; sisters, Josephine Waaso, Elsie Rinker, Leona Shively and Cynthia Novacek; and brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Raymond, Royal, Louis and Randall.
