Leroy Thornton, age 69, of Union Bridge, Maryland, died peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born June 28, 1944 in Howard County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Leonard Thornton and Viola Brown. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Frisby Thornton.
Mr. Thornton was a member of Bowens Chapel in Union Bridge. He was a small engine and automobile mechanic with Renn-Kirby Pontiac in Frederick and Joe Wallace automotive in Myersville. He also worked for Hartman roofing company in Frederick. He loved to dance, listen to James Brown music, and collect antiques.
Surviving are son, Leroy Wendall Roberts of Hagerstown; step-children, Dorothy Dalton and husband Glen of Baltimore, Raymond Smith and wife Ginger of Hagerstown, Doris Smith and fiancée Elijah Brown of Westminster, Ragina Smith of Taneytown, Jed Smith and wife Shana of Taneytown, and Jay Smith and wife Richelle of Littlestown, PA; brother, Melvin Thornton of Eastern Shore, Md., sister, Netty Gibson and husband Frank of Catonsville; sister-in-law, Harriet Hill of New Windsor; brother-in-law, John Frisby and wife Marge of Westminster. Also surviving are special grandchildren, Wardell Roberts, Lynn Smith and Shamika Brown, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Wayne Roberts; grandson, Wydell Roberts; and by siblings, Wayne, Edward, Carroll, and Calvin Thornton, and Maryann Sands.
