Leroy Spells was born to the late Jessie Spells, Sr. and Lillie Mae Reed Spells, on July 13, 1940, in Shubuta, Mississippi.
During his late teen years Leroy moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. He lived with his older siblings, continued his education and worked various jobs.
Leroy married Monerleasser Heidelberg in November of 1987. Together they traveled many places, and when his health failed, Lisa kept him in their home so he would be comfortable. He was never too ill to say to his caregivers, “Thank you”, and “You are a good man” . He would say many thing to make you laugh, so hard. We will always love miss him.
Leroy was employed thirty-two years at U. S Airways Airline and retired in August of 1997. Leroy was a very happy person and was always smiling. He was a sharing man. He loved to fish and hunt, and always had a story to tell about fishing, hunting, and the people on his job. He also loved to grill and cook.
Leroy answered God’s calling on May 11, 2019, at the age of seventy-eight year and ten months, at Evergreen Crossing while there for a respite stay.
Leroy was the youngest of his sisters and brothers, and was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Jessie Spells Jr., Handy Spells, Chester Spells, and Lester Spells, and two sisters, Lois Spells Mahone, and Elsie Foster.
