LeRoy W. Herrick

1926 – 2021

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband and friend passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children on September 7, 2021.

He was born June 8, 1926 to Joseph Wright and Elizabeth Ellen (Hogge) Herrick in West Weber, Utah as the youngest of eight children.  He grew up surrounded by a loving family and learned the value of hard work on the family farm.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Saginaw Bay Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific Ocean.  He received five bronze stars for his honorable service.

On May 27, 1950 he married his sweetheart, Charline Pett.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 8, 1956.  Together, they were blessed with five children, 15 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.  Roy and Charline spent 53 wonderful years together.  Charline passed away in 2003.

Roy worked for Amalgamated Sugar Company and retired from Cereal Foods in 1989.  He enjoyed farming, raising and racing quarter horses, and golfing and traveling with his wife.  He always kept a weedless garden and loved sharing his harvest with his family. He found joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in their many activities.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings including, Bishop, Stake Patriarch, and an ordinance worker at the Ogden Temple.  He was an example of Christ-like love to so many.

He was dedicated to serving, supporting, and caring for his family.  Every member of his family had a special bond with him and knew they were loved. He made his home a place where family and friends felt welcomed and appreciated.  He was admired for his immeasurable wisdom, keen sense of humor, and loving example.

He is survived by his 4 children, Marsha (Mike) Hancock, Ross (LaRee) Herrick, Ann (John) Messerly, and Lesa (Scott) Ross.

He was preceded in death by his wife; infant son, Brent; great-granddaughter, Grace Hickenlooper; parents; two brothers and five sisters.

Special thanks to Korie and Crysten with Atlas Hospice for their tender loving care of our father.
