“It is with great sadness that the family of Leroy Anson Berry, 75, of Cocoa, announces his passing on the morning of Monday, March 12, 2018. He made his trip Home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of St. Francis, after a long battle with cancer. We remember Lee as a dedicated servant of Brevard Public Schools and as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Lee was born on September 6, 1942 in Johnson City, Tennessee, to Leroy Berry and Rosa Triplett. He was the eldest of three siblings. Upon graduation from Science Hill High School, he attended East Tennessee State University on a softball scholarship, graduating in 1966.

Lee served Brevard Public Schools for 44 years; first as a physical education teacher at Palm Bay Elementary; later, as the principal of Cape View Elementary; he became an Area Superintendent, and finally finished his career as Deputy Superintendent. He was respected and admired by his colleagues and students for his leadership, honesty, fairness, and integrity. Lee was also an instructor for Rollins College, which is where he met Susan.

Lee married Susan Auman on August 1, 1986 in Cocoa Beach. Together, they had four children. Lee was his family’s greatest supporter in every aspect of their lives. He developed a lifelong passion for cooking in his youth; his favorite hobby was to prepare new dishes for his family inspired by his love of cooking shows. With Susan, he enjoyed traveling to new destinations. Some of his most memorable trips include his retirement trip to Alaska and following his children to Germany, Sweden, and Hawaii. Lee’s other passions included playing and watching golf, rooting for the Florida Gators, and reading.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom.
