Leonard Staake, 90, of Meredosia, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.
He was born January 16, 1918, in rural Chapin, the son of Edward and Magdalena Fricke Staake. He married Mabel Louise Korsmeyer on Sept. 22, 1946, in Meredosia, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2000.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet (husband, Nicholas) Torrillo and Betty (husband, Donald) Goughenour, both of St. Louis, Mo.; three sons, Donald (wife, Deb) Staake of Williamsfield, David (wife, Connie) Staake of Staunton and Steve (wife, Jana) Staake of Meredosia; twelve grandchildren, Gary Goughenour, Christi Goughenour and Matt Goughenour, all of St. Louis, Mo., Kenny Staake of Plano, Kayla Staake (fiancé, Patrick Lunde) of Wheaton, Dan (wife, Stacey) Staake and Kevin Staake, both of Edwardsville, Brittany Staake of Staunton, Cory Staake of Macomb, Jenna Staake of Blandinsville, and Amanda Hill and Kelsey Hill, both of Meredosia; one great-grandson, Nathan Staake of Edwardsville; and two sisters, Selma Staake and Mildred Witte, both of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ann Staake in infancy; and one brother, Robert Staake in infancy.
Mr. Staake was a lifelong farmer in the Meredosia area, retiring in 1982, and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal’s fan, and enjoyed Fighting Illini basketball, playing cards and drives through the country to check out the crops. Most of all, he loved having his family around him.
