Uncasville, CT – Leonard Rogers, 96, of Main St. Niantic, formerly of Uncasville died Friday morning, May 17, 2013 at Crescent Point in Niantic.
He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa on February 14, 1917 son of the late Frederick H. and Elenora (Donath) Rogers. He was the beloved husband of Eilleen Labounty Rogers, together they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Leonard joined the United States Navy in 1938 in Desmoines, Iowa and was assigned duties in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans on Destroyers and submarines. He retired from active duty in 1959. He then worked at Electric Boat for a number of years and last worked as a manager of a package store on the Submarine Base in Groton. Mr. Rogers was an avid fisherman and in later years a fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball.
Leonard was predeceased by two brothers Lawrence and Leroy and one sister Lillian. He is survived by his wife Eileen and a special goddaughter Lisa and her husband Paul Bazinet of Norwich and a brother, Robert Lovejoy of Iowa.
