Leonard Paynter Shipley, age 93 of Littlestown, died at his home on Monday March 19, 2012. He was born November 3, 1918 in Gamber, MD, son of the late Grove McGrady and Mary Sidney Paynter Shipley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. He attended the First Baptist Church in Littlestown, PA.
Leonard worked 25 years as a supervisor for Koester’s Bakery in Baltimore. He was a car salesman for Lincoln/Mercury and sold real estate in Ohio. He retired after 20 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Leonard drove a school bus until the age of 90 in Frederick, MD.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, L. Wayne and Martha Shipley of Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Jim Haker of Supply, NC; grandchildren, Kevin Haker, Shawna Haker, Scott Haker, Erik Shipley, Megan DeFord and Holly Shipley; great grandchildren, Kirby Toolan, Ryan Teague, Jessica Brooks, Kyle Haker, Kate Haker, Kaylee Haker, Kaitlyn Shipley and Keaton DeFord; great great grandchildren, Shane and Kyla Toolan; companion, Carolyn Barnes of Littlestown, PA.
He was predeceased by siblings, Frank Shipley, George Shipley and Alverta
“Bertie” Street.
