Mr. Leonard L. “Len” Larson, 68, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 10:20 am. He was born in Detroit, MI on September 30, 1952 to the late Charles and Dorothy G. (Counter) Larson. He is also preceded in death by his spouses, Linda Larson, who was the mother of the children; and Shannon Larson.
Len is also survived by his children, Tad and Christine Larson, both of Elkhart; his siblings Pauline (James) Brown of Tampa, FL, Charles (Betty) Larson of Florence, AL, Dorothy Prugh of Elkhart, Debbie (Don) Bruen of Cassopolis, MI, Tammy (Bill) Honey of Elkhart and LeAnn Finnigan of Elkhart; grandchildren Kaylee, Larry, Isaiah, Nina, Lucille and Sophia Larson and a host of extended family and good friends that Len felt he was fortunate enough to be associated with.
Len worked in the RV industry for many years as a welder, but his bigger “claim to fame” was the fact that he served in the US Army, the US Navy and the US Air Force all in one lifetime. Len was proud of his country and his heritage, and those altruistic qualities that were honed with years of military service spilled out into his civilian life as loyal, gracious and kind. Len would help anyone he could, and he passed those traits on to his children.
Len also had his “wild side” as well, and hardly ever passed up a good game of darts or an evening with his friends at any one of several local “refreshment” establishments. He was also quite the car enthusiast as well and loved to work on them until a back injury later in life prohibited his ability to get around comfortably.
All in all, Len remained close to his children and his good friends. As with anyone, Len had his triumphs and his losses, but he always kept his chin up, his eyes focused and his heart open to all that life had to offer.
