Leonard D. “Red” Lalla, a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, son of the late Nicholas Lalla and Antonina “Lena” Cuccia Lalla, died on Friday, November 11, 2016, at the age of 87. Faith and family were first and foremost in his life and evident until the end as his family prayed the rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet by his bedside. Leonard was born in his parents’ home on Paris Avenue on January 29, 1929. He lived in St. Leo the Great parish and fondly reminisced about the many friends he had in the neighborhood. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and served in the Army during the time of the Korean Conflict.
Leonard was a member of The Contessa Entellina Society and the Louisiana Restaurant Association for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini until Hurricane Katrina and then attended Sisters Servants of Mary.
A successful self-made man, Leonard was also a warm and loving person who playfully teased and played jokes on his family and the people he loved most. He always felt “fine” and everything was always going to “work out if you said your prayers and trusted in God”. On Friday morning, he surrendered his will and life to God who called him home to be reunited with his son, Michael.
