Leona Ruth Warren, age 93, of Rensselaer passed away October 12, 2015, at Franciscan Health Rensselaer.

Ruth was born February 17, 1922, in Royal Center, Ind., the daughter of Raymond and Pearl (Warfel) Hefner. She was raised in Royal Center and was a 1940 graduate of Royal Center High School. On August 30, 1941, in Rensselaer, Ind., Ruth married Richard Keith Warren and they made their home in Rensselaer. Ruth began her working career at Carter Oil Company and then at the office of Peach Leopold Home Finance.

From 1964-1966 Ruth served as Rensselaer City Clerk. She later began work at the Utilities office of the City of Rensselaer where she was a bookkeeper for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer, the TUMC Day Circle and the United Methodist Women. Ruth was in charge of hundred’s of funeral dinners for the church and served as the kitchen supervisor for several years. She was a member of the PUMA 100 Club and was a St. Joseph College Fellow, was a member of the Senior Citizen’s Bowling League, the Ladies Literary Club, was a former member of the Extension Homemakers and Curtis Creek Country Club. Ruth enjoyed many things in her lifetime, especially crocheting, bowling, golfing and attending basketball games at St. Joseph College. Ruth enjoyed people and made herself available to drive those needing transportation to doctor appointments.

Ruth is survived by her loving children, Carolyn (“Bill” William) Pearson of Kentland, Ind., and Randy (Beth) Warren of Rensselaer along with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard on December 21, 1995, three sisters and two brothers.
