Leona M. Duke, 85, of Bicknell, IN, passed away at 10:45 AM Wednesday May 30, 2012 at the Freelandville Community Home with her family at her bedside. She was born January 7, 1927 in Vincennes the daughter of Raymond & Anna Speth Kaiser. She was a graduate of St. Rose High School and she married Lloyd M. Duke on September 3, 1947 and they made their life together for nearly 60 years until his death on June 29, 2007.

She helped her husband on the family farm and she shared his love of farming. She was active as a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and various organizations related to farming. She was a member of Farm Bureau and served as Knox County Women’s Leader for several years. She was awarded the Brute Society Medal in 2004 and was a Gray Lady at the Good Samaritan Hospital for many years. She is survived by their children, Lloyd James Duke, and his wife Mary of Bicknell, IN, Michael A. Duke of Princeton, IN and Patricia “Patty” Baxter, and her husband Dennis of Bloomington, IN.

Her grandchildren, Brian Duke, Beverly Smith, Jim Duke, Greg Duke, Steve Duke, Andy Baxter, Nathan Baxter, Jessica Baxter, Amy Baxter, Jeff Duke, Mark Duke, Mike Duke, Sean Duke, Jason Duke and Elizabeth Duke. 18 Great Grandchildren and two sisters, Harriett Gartner of Vincennes, IN and Rita Leeper, and her husband Tom of Indianapolis, IN also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Jon Duke, a grandson, Chris Duke, her parents, 2 brothers, Richard Kaiser and Robert Kaiser and a sister Bernadine Crock.
