Leona Florek of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Liberty Village on December 7, 2018.

Leona was born in the East. St. Louis on March 6, 1925, to Josephine and Joseph Florek. After graduating from high school, she began working for Kraft Foods/Sealtest Dairy in St. Louis. Later in her career, she accepted a position with the St. Louis Army Corps of Engineers until retirement.

Leona was fondly known as “Oni” to her family who loved her dearly. She was kind, compassionate, and never spoke a harsh word about anyone. She enjoyed trips to Connecticut and Washington to visit family, bargain shopping at the local mall for nieces and nephews, attending family gatherings, was always ready for an adventure, and became quite competitive when playing games. She will be sorely missed.

Leona is survived by her nieces Susan (Christopher) Seibel of St. Charles, Mo, Kathy (Mark) Kalb of Red Wing, MN, Marlene (Mickey Clark) Kovacs of Olympia, WA, Marlene (Tom) Swetz of Holley, NY, nephews Frank (Pam) Kovacs of New Durham, NH, John Towne of Holley, NY, Bradley Florek of St. Louis, MO, Terry Florek of Belleville, IL, and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Clara Towne, Helen Ziaja, and Nell Kovacs, and brothers Frank Florek and Leo Florek.
