Leona E. Griffin, 96, of Jacksonville, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at Barton W. Stone Home.

She was born January 9, 1914, in Vandalia, MO, the daughter of Dallas Henry and Nettie Emma Herron Day. She married Charles H. Griffin on Sept. 4, 1954, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and he survives.

She is also survived by one son, John (Mary) Griffin, three grandchildren, Travis, Audra and Allison Griffin, and three great-grandsons, Jonathan Tyler Griffin, Charles George Griffin and Ethan Michael Wallace, all of Mauldin, SC; one sister, Ruth (Jim) Jolly of Wood River; two nieces, Mary Derge and Cindy Chubb; and three nephews, Michael, Dennis and Dr. Mark Day. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Day and Dallas Day (surviving wife, Shirley of East Alton); two sisters, Mildred Mae and Dorothy Fern Day; one niece, Linda Jolly and her daughter, Amy Waters.

Mrs. Griffin was employed at J. Capps & Sons as a pocket maker for 35 years. She then made wedding cakes for a number of years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Leona lived each day of her life to the fullest. She enjoyed her son and her three lovely grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
